DS3 – T3/E3 Media Converters
DS3 is short for “digital signal level 3” T-carrier, also referred to as T3 or E3 in Europe, and has a data rate of 44.736 Mbit/s (45 Mb). A DS3 circuit is used in the telephone carrier network as a backbone for voice channels. It can support the equivalent to 672 DS0 voice channels and has also been used as a high-speed WAN backbone in enterprises where there is a need for high-speed carrier-provided data service between offices.
DS3 is specified for coaxial copper cable in the last mile, and media converters provide a solution for those users that need to extend DS3 connections over fiber. The copper to fiber DS3 media converters can be used to connect to PBXs, routers, and more via fiber. DS3 networks are also popular for enterprise branch office WANs that are built using DS1 (T1/E1) connections multiplexed into a DS3 backbone. Fiber optic DS3 network connectivity allows companies to continue to utilize these legacy networks.
Transition Networks’ DS3 media converters are ideal for extending the life of your network with a DS3 backbone. Our converters provide high performance flexibility in the form factor, allowing you to find the converter solution that is best for your network. Our converters come in two form factors: chassis-based slide-in cards and stand-alone converters. View our DS3 – T3/E3 media converters below.
I have been specifically using Transition Networks’ products on my engineering products for over 10 years. I have always been pleased with their products, their support, and their willingness to listen to requests for new product development.
