Glenn Buck to Speak on Optimal Network Infrastructure Design for Power Utility Substations

ATLANTA, GA – UTC Telecom & Technology 2015 – May 5, 2015 — Transition Networks, Inc., will be speaking and exhibiting at the UTC Telecom & Technology Conference May 5-8, 2015 in Atlanta, where the company will be available in booth #722 to demonstrate its broad range of power utility substation network solutions designed to enhance network integration.

On Wednesday, May 6th at 8:15 am Glenn Buck, Manager of Sales Engineers at Transition Networks will be speaking, along with Keith Porterfield, VP of Telecom at Georgia System Operations Corp. (GASOC), on securing critical infrastructure. The title of their joint presentation is: “Optimal Network Infrastructure Design for Power Utility Substation Security, Automation & Maintenance.”

“Utility company operators are faced with changing communications infrastructure. As they adapt to new technologies, security and reliability are paramount,” said Tony LeFebvre, Director of Product Management for Transition Networks. “Our products cost effectively support the migration to fiber and packet based technologies, so that utilities can leverage existing equipment, while using the latest communications solutions available.”

Transition Networks provides fast, reliable solutions that enable operators to upgrade outdated legacy substation equipment and deliver added physical and network security that ensures compliance with government security directives (NERC/CIP).

Transition Networks products to be featured at the UTC Telecom show include:

  1. INDURA™ SeriesDual-stack IPv4/v6 Layer 2 hardened Ethernet switches are compliant with international substation IEC 61850-3 requirements. Combining the robustness required in a substation environment with the assurance of carrier Ethernet functions provides the ability to analyze network performance, adjust network utilization, and detect and locate network faults.
  1. Serial Device ServersDesigned to operate reliably in the substation environment, these products include data encryption for added security. They enable communication of serial data across Ethernet networks and provide fiber-optic connections that are immune to electromagnetic interference commonly present in the substation environment.
  1. Modular Layer 3 Rack Mount Switch – This product has achieved IEC 61850-3 certification targeted for substation automation. The flexible modular design allows clients to choose the port type and density appropriate for their application. Customers can select copper or fiber connection types and 8, 16, or 24 port densities. The switch also provides options for 1 or 10 Gigabit uplink connections.

Transition Networks will be showcasing its security and substation solutions in booth #722 throughout the show. Conference attendees are invited to meet the Transition Networks team, learn about the company’s full suite of products, and attend the May 6th presentation by Glenn Buck.
